Description:  Chinese snuff bottle of cylindrical shape decorated in underglaze cobalt blue in “Master of the rocks” style with a scene depicting a fisherman in a mountain lake scenery, with trees and pavilions.

Mark:  Yongzheng mark

Dating:  Late 18th / early 19th century

Material:  Porcelain, glazed inside. The outside covered with a creamy glaze.

Size:  77 mm high

Stopper:  Coral stopper and bone spoon

Provenance:  Antiquarian market

References:  Two bottles with identical scene and painting style are illustrated in Robert Kleiner’s book “In search of a Dragon, Underglaze Blue and White porcelain in the collection of Joseph Baruch Silver”, at pages 88 and 89.

Notes:  The last picture is showing a direct comparison, with the same dimensional ratio, of this bottle and the two mentioned as a reference. The exact number and position of rocks, mountains, trees, are proving that the painters of these bottles used reference drawings.
