Description
Description: Chinese Tang dynasty pair of small cups. One cup is green glazed while the other one is brown glazed. The cups are monochrome glazed, being one green and the other one brown, in the sancai lead glaze palette. The shape of the cups, with the thick, heavy base apparently out of proportion in respect to their small diameter, must have been designed in order to provide a good stability. This may indicate that the cups were meant to hold unguents or paste.
Dating: Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 AD)
Size: 58 mm diameter
Provenance: Antiquarian market.
