E10 A Liao Dynasty amber yellow glazed small cup

Description:   Chinese Liao dynasty small cup, with tall foot and everted rim, glazed with lead glaze of warm amber yellow over a white slip.

Dating:  Liao Dynasty (916 – 1125 AD)

Size:  9.2 cm diameter

Provenance:  Antiquarian market.

Notes:  Despite the unglazed foot, almost all these Liao cups have been fired upside down, as proven by the remnants of three stilt marks inside them. Both this small cup and the bigger one in our collection are sharing a particular elegant shape due to a deeper form and taller foot than most Liao cups.
