Description
Description: Chinese porcelain old snuff bottle of meiping form, decorated with copper red patches under a powder blue glaze. The powder blue glaze, also known as soufflé blue glaze or sprinkled blue glaze, is obtained by blowing the cobalt powder onto the surface of the unfired porcelain body through a tube with gauze over the end, and then covered with a clear glaze. Usually, it is finely blown so to cover the whole surface with a mottled looking layer of blue. On this bottle, the blue is sparsely applied for making the red patches visible through the blue. The resulting effect is that, if the size of the bottle is unknown, as for example if the bottle is seen in a picture, one would easily think that it is a Jun meiping vase.
