G45 A “Full duty accomplished” ruby red glass snuff bottle

SKU: G45 Category:

Description

Description:  Chinese ruby red glass snuff bottle of round flattened form. It deserves to be recognized as being “who accomplished its duty in full”. Its surface is in fact overall covered by a satin sheen due to intense use. This snuff bottle could easily be inadequately judged by a quick, inappropriate evaluation, while actually it is a 18th century bottle, and well crafted. Important details to be considered are the convex base, and the two round areas encircled by the ring of each side masks, which too are convex. They are shaped in such a way to simulate that the foot and masks have been applied to a round body. Besides that, the masks are in higher relief than usual, and their eyes are hand carved, not made by a tubular tool. Because of the accurate carving/shaping, because of what at the time was an expensive glass (this type of ruby red glass was achieved by adding colloidal gold in glass’ recipe), and becasue of its story of intense use, this bottle is perfectly representing one of the scopes of our collection.
