Description
Description: Chinese porcelain baluster vase, covered with a lustrous copper red crackled Langyao glaze. This was originally a baluster vase, but now completely missing the neck, having been filed down to the base of the neck, due to a probable damage. Despite being not in original conditions, which is a pity, this vase remains an excellent example of Langyao glaze at its best.
Dating: Kangxi period
Size: 31.5 cm diameter
Provenance: Antiquarian market
References: The last two pictures are showing the same type of vases, but intact, from Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
Notes: The Langyao glaze (Mr. Lang’s ware, from the name of Lang Tingji, the supervisor of Jingdezhen’s Imperial kilns at the beginning of 18th century) is one of the important achievements of Kangxi pottery. The glaze is known in the West as “Oxblood” and “Sang de boeuf”.
