Description
Description: A Chinese baluster shaped snuff bottle with an incised Anhua decoration representing Ming style clouds over rocks emerging from waves.
Mark: Unmarked
Dating: 18th century. In the description of an anhua snuff bottle with an incised dragon that is illustradted in “In Search of a Dragon, Underglaze-blue and white porcelain snuff bottles from the collection of Joseph Baruch Silver”, Robert Kleiner say that snuff bottles with anhua decoration are very rare and he dates it to 1760-1820. Because of that and especially because of the subject and its style, we believe that the same dating should apply for our bottle.
Material: Porcelain, glazed inside.

Notes: I knew about the collection of the late Mario Dalmazzo in 2012. In the same year I purchased his bottles from the widow, Ms. Silvana Dalmazzo. They were a couple of passionate travelers, visiting Asia and Africa several times in the mid-20th century.
The bottles here coming from the Dalmazzo collection are: C8, C9, C10, C11, C12, G18, M2, O9, O10, O11, O12, O13, O14, O15, O16, O17, O18, S17, S18, S19, S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, and the polychrome ceramic water pot QP9
