Description

Description:   Chinese blue and white vase of squared baluster shape, decorated with Scholars and attendants in landscapes. One of the figures could be the poet Lin Bu (林逋 967 – 1028 AD), a Song Poet who had a special love for cranes.

Dating:  18th century, Kangxi / Yongzheng period, Qing dynasty. About dating, this vase is not an easy one. We believe that, because of the type of blue, quality of the painting, style of the figures, way of applying the shades of blue, the paste, glaze, and way of potting, it is an 18th century item. At general view, it is not appearing to be of the Kangxi period, but some details are indeed typical of Kangxi. We think then that, with a good margin of reasonableness, it should be dated to Kangxi / Yongzheng transition.

Size:  32.8 cm high

Provenance:  Antiquarian market
