Description
Description: Chinese fossiliferous limestone snuff bottle of slightly compressed ovoid form. The limestone incorporating some fossilized inhabitant of the Barrier Reef’s fauna, probably a soft coral or an invertebrate. The stone has been cut orthogonally to the direction of the fossilized stems/tentacles so that they mostly appear like white spots on the blackish background, creating an effect similar to ray skin.

Size: 58 mm high
Stopper: Coral stopper with yellow glass collar and ivory spoon.
Provenance: Bought on January 2015 from an antiquarian from Cremona, who bought them from an old collector in the same town. The bottles here coming from this collection are S12, S13, S14, G13
