S5 A rare brown jade double gourd snuff bottle

Description:  Chinese brown jade snuff bottle of double gourd flattened form. A bottle of great quality and of rare jade color.

Mark:  

Dating:  18^th / 19^th Century.

Material:  Brown nephrite jade

Size:  59 mm high

Stopper:  Glass imitating a carved coral with qilong motif, bone spoon.

Provenance:  Antiquarian market

References:  See in the last picture a jade snuff bottle of similar form and quality, but of different type of jade, sold by Sotheby’s.

Notes:  Jade snuff bottles of this perfect shape and quality, as this one, the jade bottle S48 and the reference bottle, are very rare. They share an incredible hollowing, which matches perfectly the outer contour.
