Description
Description: Chinese dish decorated with an uncommon version of the known “heron and lotus” border, and a greatly detailed “Pagoda landscape” scene at the bottom. On the rim of this dish, the herons standing among lotuses are alternating with herons in flight. This border is not common, and we have it also on our rare, big plate T51. The central scene is particularly rich of details. Besides the usual mountains, pavilions, and scholar with his attendant crossing a bridge, we have here two herons on a pine, which although rare we have already seen on other examples, and a swimming fish, that is totally new at our knowledge on this type of plates. There is a yellowish area on the border, which looks like an old restoration, but it is indeed a firing imperfection.
