Description
Description: Chinese sapphire blue overlay on milky glass snuff bottle of compressed round form, carved with archaistic confronting Kui dragons in the form of the stylized character Long (龙 dragon, 龍 in traditional Chinese character). The dragons finely incised. Small archaistic dragons are also carved on the shoulders
Foot/base: Convex base matching the shape of bottle’s body and round, well-shaped foot.
Mark:
Dating: 18th Century
Material: Glass.
Size: 59 mm high
Stopper: Coral stopper with black plastic ring and bamboo spoon.
Provenance: Antiquarian market
References: A similar bottle at the Victoria and Albert Museum and another one from Bonhams, see last two pictures. Note that the one of the V&A Museum has the same charater of our bottle while the symmetrical character on Bonhams’ bottle is Shuang Xi (双喜 double happiness) also written in the stylistic manner.
