K13 A very rare copper green “Phoenix” spittoon, Kangxi

SKU: K13 Category:

Description

Description:   Chinese porcelain water pot covered with a copper-green glaze with iridescent surface, decorated with an incised decoration of phoenixes flying among clouds. It bears a Jiajing apocryphal mark, but the correct dating is later, Kangxi.

Dating:  Kangxi period.

Size:  12.3 cm high

Provenance:  Antiquarian market. Ex Benedetto Cuccio Guarneri Collection. Ex unknown Dutch or Danish collection. All what has been found about Benedetto Cuccio Guarneri is that he was a lawyer, who sold the house of the family in 1972, which was an historical house in Sicily. He born in 1916 and died in 1993. He was son of Maria Guarneri, who in turn was daughter of Andrea Guarneri (1826-1914) who has been a senator and a minister during the Kingdom of Italy. The squared, hand written label at the base says “Regeringen (meaning for the Govern, i.e. the Court) den (or der) Ming Dynastiet”, which could either be Dutch or Danish. Who wrote that was believing on the mark, which actually is apocryphal.

References:  The only reference found is an almost identical one, but of Jiajing period, that is in the Gugong Museum (The National Palace Museum of Taiwan), see the first picture of the references. The second picture of the references is showing a bowl with incised decoration and of the same glaze, of the Yongzheng period. The last picture is showing another bowl with the same glaze, of the Kangxi period.
