As explained in the description of the Cong vase R14 in the LateQing/Republic section, the Cong shape is a form of objects that originates since the Neolithic period in China, especially jade objects. The reason for this shape is not known for sure, but there is a theory that it could represent the Universe, being the square part the Earth, and the circular sections over and below it representing the Sky.
