S82 A botryoidal agate “tiny jewel” snuff bottle

SKU: S82 Category:

Description

Description:  Chinese botryoidal small size agate snuff bottle of slim rounded-cylindrical form. This is an exceptionally high-grade bottle for the quality of the stone, of the shaping and of the superb hollowing. To tell about the hollowing of this bottle it is worth to compare it with the most similar one in our collection, the small double gourd Palace Workshop white jade bottle S73, which too is well hollowed. Despite being that bottle only 2mm taller than this one, it is about 50% heavier. The S73 bottle is 51.7 mm high and it is weighing 31 grams. The present bottle is 49.3 mm tall and is weighing 22 grams. All the above is suggesting that that are high chances that this bottle too could be a Palace workshop product, or at least was made by a private workshop for the Court, wishing to accomplish Qianlong emperor’s appreciation for small bottles.  The last two pictures are showing the botryoidal structure of the stone.
